Realm of the InterNutter

Thoughts, stories and ideas.

Wednesday, Let's try this again

Rain, cloud cover, and thunder and lightning... all of these band together to screw with out internet.

We're expecting rain and I can only hope that I get a twofer out today.

I also have to edit my anthology because my issue with counting struck again. Missed a digit between 151 and 153 and now the count is off.

Fun.

I have some more gravel for the boggy patch in the yard and I'm praying we don't get hail again. The blankets and sheets are a bitch to put over the car every time there's a threat of hail.

Weather bureau says only light showers today. Fingers crossed.

I'm editing some hundred titles and then I'm getting on with getting on.

Challenge #04012-J360: Everyone Should Have a Fish

The kind hearts at the school learn to make the treat so that children, like young Kormwind, can have them.

[AN: Bless you, Nonny, but this doesn't happen in the book the original story is based on. Check my Patreon for the chapters. My choices are to alter my series' continuity or go with a huge time gap between the inspiration post and this one]

The parcel had come a long way to

Tuesday, Boxing Day and All the Fun Times

I got bogged trying to return my car to the shed, got a neighbour's help getting it out and safe, and I now have some lovely wheel holes in my lawn.

Other than the bogging event, we had a relatively quiet celebration with all the usual things. Gifts, tableside debates, and WAAAAYYYY too much food despite my best efforts to prevent that happenstance.

I went overboard on the acquisition side. Again.

BUT we have plenty of unsuitable food to nom on. For

Challenge #04011-J359: Hush Now Darling

The parental finally finds their way back to their friends and their child, but it takes a while.

Three to five days was the estimate, given Alliance average response times to emergency signals. The CRC didn't get to them until eight had passed. Eight days of discovery regarding infant Deathworlder healthcare.

For a small flock of Havenworlders, it was stressful.

Four of them were not enough to take the place of one Human

Sunday, Christmas Eve, Quiet Company

Traffic was relatively sane on the quest to fetch MeMum, though there were enough dangerous drivers to alert Mum all the same. Something something, panic about the holiday death toll.

I was a supremely careful driver, today. Making absolutely, positively certain that nobody would hit us.

We arrived in one piece with only a minimum of shrieking. So now it's time to chill and enjoy each other's company for the duration.

Apparently, my slow-roasted ham is already driving Mayhem into a crazed

Challenge #04010-J358: Get Comfortable

Jay and Mr. Sunshine are having lunch when some of the station's cats decide that these two individuals' laps will make good napping spots. -- Anon Guest

Mr Sunshine had been tasked with Jay's education. This included, according to Mr Sunshine, the student's introduction to the finer things in life. A sampling of everything that the cultures of the Universe could permit.

Today, it was sushi and blooming tea.

The tea steeped and performed in a glass teapot set between them, while

Saturday, Big Cleanup and Prep

Tomorrow, I take off to get MeMum so she can be up here for the big holiday. That means my offerings will be late. The day after tomorrow, the most you'll see out of me is a seasonal greeting.

And THEN.... sometime after I get MeMum back home on Boxing Day, two stories to make up for the lack.

Henceforth, the normal state of proceedings will return.

I still have chapters to read for Adorable. That will be happening between laundry loads

Challenge #04009-J357: Forging a New Beginning

Word of advice, never leave me alone near your junk pile. You'd be surprised at how useful junk can be! -- Anon Guest

Happier than a Gobelliin in a midden -- Alfarell saying.

People dismiss Gobelliin as filthy menaces whose only goal is chaos and destruction. They're barely recognised as Faekindred since they lost their inherent magic eons before the current era. Nevertheless, they are still outcasts. Forbidden from most of society, they go to where society dumps everything.

There, they make

Friday, Ham Day and Unfucking Marathon

The ham is thawing and we have today and tomorrow to get the house nicer before visitors happen. Yay.

Procrastination has bit us all on the butt this time around.

BUT I do also believe in miracles in association with effort, so we should be able to pull through regardless.

It's a small enough crimbo this year.

We can do this.

When I'm done with this blog, I'll get on with the catio and The Bikkie and then dealing with the mess.

Challenge #04008-J356: A Lesson in Trust

A terrified child holds Gikka at knife point, their voice shaking, yet their hands are strong as they look at the wizard and the cat and asks... "Why should I trust you? Ones like you kill ones like me all the time. I have no one, but I still don't want to die." -- Anon Guest

Half of the kid's camouflage was filth. The other half was a mottling of hues. If they were in a city, the people would have dismissed

Challenge #04007-J355: Essential Operations

Wraithvine and friends are asked to help teach apprentice healers who are going to be assigned to local orphanages to help care for the kids and keep them healthy. Some of the children come up to them with torn, or otherwise damaged, stuffies and ask the healers to please treat their "friends". -- Anon Guest

In any large enough city, it's no accident that Healer's schools are in close proximity to the orphanages or poorhouses. They are, after all, the places that

Thursday, Pudding Day and Catching Up

I forgot to do Wordpress Wednesday, so that's what I'm doing first thing. It'll help me wait for the butter to thaw.

Yeah the butter I got yesterday wound up in a freezer. Things happen.

I'm making my Decadent Bread and Butter Pudding today, with cinnamon in the custard.

Gotta switch it up. My mixed fruit came without glace cherry bits.

ANY way. I have offerings to make, a pudding to bake, and a house to clean. Inertia is my copilot. And

Challenge #04006-J354: A Treasure Beyond Compare

"Evening! Oh put your weapons away, I don't intend to fight you. Need something? All this treasure? Oh it's not mine, you'll have to ask the kobolds and see if they'll share. Be nice, mind you, these guys are well trained to deal with your lot. My hoard? Heh, oh you mean my library, it's further back. Have any favorite books?" -- Anon Guest

Dragons have learned from the greed of Humanity. There's still the compulsion to hoard something, but they very

Challenge #04005-J353: Time For Nothing

It's rare I get days like these. It's quiet, there's no emergencies, no one needs my assistance at the moment. I rather am enjoying the relaxation. -- Anon Guest

He had gone through his routines. His morning Kata, feeding the cats, feeding the Dire Goats and then milking them, and then setting most of the milk into the vats with rennet. A few pints went into the sterile bottles and then into the cold box for later. He'd breakfasted and flirted with
