The Year of the Groundhog

It's Day One of no plague in Queensland again. I've been here before, I'll be here again, and I will be screaming the lyrics to I Got You Babe as part of my Epic Road Warrior theme.

Chaos now has a FULL selection of noms to make sammiches with at school, since she doesn't like packing them at home. All frozen solid so they can survive the trip there in good condition. I hope.

People continue to be dillholes about this plague and honestly, I've had enough of their bullshit. If they don't want to wear a mask, they can go to Solitary until there's no plague any more. No excuses.

China is threatening everyone now that the US and Australia are mobilising to stop them taking over the oceans and honestly... world war three is right up there on my Apocalypse Bingo Card. It's just par for the course right now. Like of fucking course there's going to be an international war with power-hungry despots as the central players. Of fucking course there is.

Twenty twenty is a long-ass century.

The good news, such as it is, is that MIT are working on a re-usable mask with N95 properties and disposable filters. Because of its hard plastic body, NOBODY can wear it incorrectly. Huzzah. Now we just have to get it to the point where it's acceptable for everyone to actually wear it.

As in, even the Karen Squad has no objections.

That's the tougher fight.

I wish I knew how to hack people's brains. Life would be so much easier if we could just convince people to do the right thing, but... there's also the temptation to use those powers for evil. Sigh.

I've done close to 200 words this morning and I'm getting closer to the 108K milestone. I'm still under the Normally Five Weeks' worth of milestones. I'll get there in the end.

Those of us who made it through the fire will all get there in the end.

Let's hope we make it.

Challenge #02752-G195: For the Thrills

The human is sitting with aliens who study the weather and they show some old videos, first giving offensensitivity warnings, of human storm chasers. They explain the jobs of the storm chasers, the dangers, and what was learned from those brave men and women who sometimes lost their lives in the pursuit of scientific discovery. They also explained of storm-tourists. Those insane adrenaline junkies who would go with storm chasers to catch a glimpse of storms like tornadoes, to be able to

The Wheezing Continueth

My experimentation yesterday has revealed results. In that I can keep this compy functioning if I stick to the BARE MINIMUM of programs going at once. Mail, Markdown editor, and browser with only the necessary pages loaded. Nothing else.

Even then, it's slow as balls to get anything done, so... Yeah. I need to save up AU$1.5K so I can afford to get a new one and do all the things I dearly want to do. I already have the

Challenge #02751-G194: You and Your Hobbies

The human got a job at a rather busy space station as an IT person and as a structural engineer. They did a lot of work with computers and with keeping up maintenance on this place. But when they signed the contract, they had an unusual clause, one that, it was discovered, they always asked for no matter what place they worked. Their quarters must be at least twice to three times the size of normal crew quarters. This was not too

::Wheezing noises from Compy::

It's mostly-alive... I hope. Somewhat alive. Appreciably more functional than previously, let's say that. I still haven't installed anything new yet as the choices for functionality as far as I'm used to are (a) Two monitors and no backup, or (b) One monitor and backup readily available.

I don't know how to make my spare monitor work via the USB thing and the other port is a burned socket that Must Not Be Used.

Eh, I'll probably shut down everything but the

Challenge #02750-G193: What Evil Sows...

Human's blood is a well-known weapon. Full of leucocytes ready to protect human body from disease and foreign invaders. While used on other forms of life it can act like acid; burning and destroying skin. Blood isn't a cheap thing, because selling it is forbidden everywhere. But black market found a way to produce enough blood to gain on it — blood farms. Cages where humans are drugged so they won't fight back. Everything begins to fall apart when one of farm workers

I want to murder my spouse a little bit...

I want to run a software on my main compy. Before I can run said software, I needed to upgrade to the new OS. I could not do that because the SSD was fried. That's fixed for a limited definition of "fixed" but... Now I need to restore from backup.

In order to restore from backup, I need my Drobo in working order.

In order for my Drobo to work, it needs a new case as the old one is major-league borked.

[AN: offensensitivity warning for toxic masculinity content, simulated violence within the linked video]

No matter what the team sport, Humans will become so invested in their team that hostility becomes part of the identification procedure. -- Excerpt from The Galactic's Guide to Human.

The real trick, the Alliance decided, was to discourage the truly horrible behaviour when it started. Allowing it to persist only resulted in worse examples of more of

One Week at Last!

Now the serious counting begins. So far, the record is at ten days before some other infected idiot invades my fair state and brings a sample of plague with them. We shall see.

Down south, they are finally making mask-wearing mandatory in a too-little-too-late move that should have been initialised when the first suburbs broke out in the damn thing. Of course, there's the same outrage from people despite idiots doing things like leaving quarantine so they can have a fucking smoke

If you truly think that your world is needed to be saved; you’re a bigger fool than I thought... -- Anon Guest

It had been quite the journey to the distant station. More effort in one lifetime than Rilissith's people had been through in recent history. They had been ambling vaguely towards space travel for previous centuries, but that was before they discovered that something was going chronically wrong with their solar system.

They could, with their current technology, launch one

Six Days...

Amazing how closing the borders between us and an obvious plague vector has been effective at cutting new infections to zero for a much longer time window.

I'm still waiting for the "genius" move to deport all their sporting teams up to my sunny state to blow up on us. People who receive superstar treatment on the regular are the most likely to act like entitled shitholes.

Guaranteed, that's going to go sideways. There's going to be an outbreak out of nowhere

A: cak-likna!

B: did you just swear?

A: I don’t know I say something random when I’m in pain

B: try not to say that again

A: wait it was a swear word?! -- Anon Guest

Offensensitivity is a peculiar thing. What offends one group might be perfectly normal. It is wise for travellers to check to see what's taboo in areas they are planning to visit for extended lengths of time. It's always wise to find out what's rude

It's day five into the days free of new plague cases, dear readers, and I am having a stream of bad days.

  1. My main compy is circling the drain
  2. So is my Drobo
  3. So is my phone
  4. I can keep the main compy struggling along for a while BUT...
  5. In order to get all my data and preferences and so on, I need the Drobo to be alive
  6. Which requires an upgrade because the current case of the old Drobo is busy

Challenge #02746-G189: Fearsome Destructive Capabilities

Carbon fibre plates, reinforced with a titanium alloy. Hi spec thermal regulator, and military grade ballistic glass. Now I just need the human to stress test this livesuit. -- Anon Guest

"What kind of Human?" said Glorz.

"I'm not sure I understand the question."

"Well, there are the Humans you pay to try and destroy it, there's the Humans you pay to life-test it, and the Humans you pay to try and keep it in top condition. Then there's the fourth if

Bread, bread, bread, bread....

Queensland has very sensibly closed its borders to New South Wales since NSW was silly enough to just announce "fuck it" and open its borders with Victoria again.

This news happening a mere 48 hours after several announcements where NSW and Victorian sporting teams are being sent north to Queensland. Possibly for health reasons.

I say this now:

FUCK. THAT. SHIT.

Don't do it. Do not let them into Queensland. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200, that won't even buy
