Challenge #03654-J001: Walking With Buddy, Beta Test

A hospital uses a VR system to help patients who are in physical therapy, and refuse to let themselves be given strong painkillers, deal with the pain and focus on their exercises. The gentle landscapes and virtual worlds make it more fun, too. -- Fighting Fit

Gaming and medical therapy have been hand-in-rubber glove for quite some time. People need less painkillers when their minds are fighting the evil forces of Xur. Or, for that matter, mining for resources in a world made of blocks.

Some early explorations of gaming and physiotherapy were limited by the technology. Patients recovering from spinal chord injury could not, for instance, bear the weight of the virtuality goggles at the time. Some made use of large enough screens, and travel rollers in combination with supports for the patient.

The advent of the Virtuality Eyepieces was a godsend for the medical profession. Light, simple, LCD on somewhat sturdy frames. The glasses could work regardless of the patient's frailty and could also augment the reality around them for safety purposes.

Challenge #03653-I365: Simple Chemistry for Galactic Complications

Bold of you to assume that I know what I’m doing

several explosions later

Well now would you look at that, it worked. Now stfu and let's keep moving before this planet or I, kills you -- Anon Guest

Xym MacGillicuddy had one rule: Never plan, just be prepared.

Those encountering it for the first time were always confused. If being prepared wasn't planning, what was ze prepared for? To which Xym answered, "Zombie apocalypse suit you? 'Cause anything's good for

Saturday, New Year's Eve

I did my personal best 5K today. Kept up a good pace for most of it, too. Then, following brunch and cake, attempted to find a new keyboard/cover for my iPad Pro.

I got this thing in 2015.

Guess how often it's likely that the shops have a replacement?

Yup.

Time to get one hand-crafted from Tanegashima.

That can wait. The old iPad is still useful even though I have to use the on-screen keyboard. I can edit anywhere with it

Challenge #03652-I364: Cat Bath

It's not a good idea to bathe a cat unless absolutely necessary. And even then, with an abundance of caution. -- Fighting Fit

Some say that cats are very clean animals since they wash themselves. Some argue that they are not, in fact, clean at all - but rather covered in cat spit.

Many of those people have never reckoned with being owned by a bobtailed cat[1].

Jermaine found this out in the process of taking a bath. Just a nice

Friday, Unfuckening PLNs

Since everyone's doing Top Whatever Lists at this time of year, I have collated one of my own. I'll be keeping tabs on the last few and releasing that thing on New Year's Day.

I have the Catio to tidy, and a literal pile of refuse to reject or recycle but otherwise get out of the house, and more stuff to get on with.

I've almost finished the basic floor plan of the dungeon I'm working on, and my next problem is

Challenge #03651-I363: Holding it In

I cannot find the story anymore, it is too far down. However, you had a story of where it was found, to protect Wraithvine from the bell, or from other such objects, was for hir to not use magic when confronted with them. So could we have a story of Wraithvine training hirself to do such things, by sometimes going as much as two days in a row without using magic? After all, it looks like ze's kinda... addicted to using magic

Thursday, Workarounds

I have conquered the 10AM problem! At some point between 10AM and noon, my compy just decides it doesn't like working for some reason.

So, I wrap up my nonsense before or just after 10. Then go do something else on my lappy until it's literally after noon.

Then I get on with getting on with other stuff. I could plausibly tag fics on my lappy during this. I will probably end up writing an entire chapter of A Devil's Tale.

...and

Challenge #03650-I362: Follow Their Lead

A group of Deregger rescues have recently been released from therapy. It took a while, there was a lot of pain to work through. They go to Respite Station to live, and find the owner, or whoever runs the place, to ask if they can work here.

https://peakd.com/fiction/@internutter/challenge-03549-i260-time-enough-and-care -- The New Guy

Two kind hands, it is said, can change the world around them. Hands aren't even necessary, but it does make the saying that much snappier.

Wednesday, Wordpress and Technical Issues

I spilled a bit of fizzy drink on my keyboard and the new one is a little on the temperamental side. It's not letting me do some things and writing with it promises to be a pain in the butt.

Also my compy doesn't like being active at 10AM for some reason.

Which means my normal goals are on hold until I figure out a work-around for that horseshit.

I'm doing my best. And if that includes a two-hour break until I

Challenge #03648-I360: All Lifeforms Secure

They're rescuing felines and cleaners from a defunct station that was being decommissioned due to its age and how much damage it suffered. Unfortunately, sadly, some of the animals were very skittish, so they had to use live-traps to make sure they were all gently caught and brought to safety. -- Anon Guest

The good news was that Cleaners would follow any old trail of garbage, so they were quickly lured into safe containment. The other good news was that Skitties were

Challenge #03649-I361: A Very Painful Lesson

Yes I'm insane, yes, I am a killer, but I'm really a nice person once you get to know me. It's pretty simple, be polite, be honest, don't break your promises, and treat people with dignity, and we'll get along just fine. Otherwise.... well, I don't kill right away, I first teach a few lessons and let people go. The ones that don't learn? Well, don't cry for them. I did give them a chance. -- Anon Guest

You have doubtless heard

Tuesday, Patreon and Chill

I have bargained some time to do my output duties from Beloved. So it's in my best interests to do two quick ones and then race through the Patreon stuff as fast as I can manage.

There's still a lot of chapters, but I should be quicker at it all henceforth. The filtering is another pain in the butt since my compy tends to lag by the time I get there.

Let's see how quickly I can get that accomplished. All the

Challenge #03647-I359: Didn't Poe Write This?

They were pirates, but they'd never taken lives. Sure they held individuals for ransom, but they would kill ANYONE that targeted or harm kids. The dread ship turned its sites on a very wealthy-looking vessel, only to realize everyone, even the idiot who owned it, were deathly ill, and towed them to help. -- Anon Guest

The name in fancy script along its side was Diligente. It was made to look expensive and fast, but also contain every possible diversion known to

Challenge #03646-I358: Welcome to All

Desperate, and hearing the Alliance gave medical care for FREE, Dereggers from many systems within the empire begin sneaking away, often with help, to save their families lives and get help. -- Anon Guest

They came in drifts. They came in droves. Freighters arrived with their holds full of the tired, the weak, and the huddled masses. The desperate, the starving, and the all-but-hopeless.

They had nothing but the clothing on their backs and the knowledge in their heads. They had risked
