Challenge #04429-L045: Yes You Have To

What's a human to do when the researchers they're supposed to be protecting get so caught up in their work they lose all sense of danger? This is getting frustrating! Hey, all you, I know it's weird for the HUMAN to be saying this but... safety first for once?? -- Anon Guest

They say curiosity killed the cat. It also works on silly fluffy Havenworlders who are equal parts rambunctious kittens and Rikki Tikki Tavi[1]. Only without any teeth and claws to defend themselves.

That's my job. I'm the teeth and claws.

That said, it's not easy being the Expedition's Human to twenty curious little fluffballs all determined to go in every different direction they can think of. A better description of my job? Honestly? It's Team Parental.

Friday, Valentine's Day

I'm starting to wonder about the person I found to help me with market research. Everything that should be a minor tweaks turns out to be a whole new video. There's flaws that should be easily detected, errors allowed to pass. I'm starting to worry this person is using AI to put out low effort somethings.

I don't want to accuse, but I'm also thinking of transcribing the ad copy from the one that needed really minor tweaks and doing it over

Challenge #04428-L044: You Get What You Give

For those who constantly have bad dreams, this gentle hellkin sells charms you wear that turns even the worst dreams good. But, be warned, don't be unkind to this soothing soul. Or you'll have bad dreams for a month. Don't worry, they never make the curse permanent, they're too kind for that. -- Anon Guest

Respite worked as they walked, though some of it didn't look like work at all. The spindle-spinning did indeed look like work. So too did the herb-gathering

Thursday, Finally Some Twiddling

I'm baking today, and Mayhem has all the things he needs to make his own bread. Plus Chaos is probably going to have a share of that. I predict a lot of trips for flour and yeast.

But homemade bread is better for you than the alchemical experiments they're selling in the shops, so it's worth it.

Today, I shall be messing around with brackets in GameMaker. Fingers crossed, I get a single thing working today.

And speaking of working, I should

Challenge #04427-L043: Army of Kind Hands

We don't say we're of the light, we don't say we're of the darkness. We won't kill, unless we are absolutely FORCED to. Each time we have to, it breaks our hearts to the core. We are an army who goes in to save lives, not take them. And we have one Mantra. What would Wraithvine do? -- Anon Guest

They carried weapons. They wore armour. They marched in time as they made their way from place to place. They had regimented

Wednesday, I Owe Output

I owe Patreon posts, I owe a Weird Writer Wednesday. I also need to make bread and get meds.

I have the best timing [/sarcasm].

At least this time, I can walk without searing agony. That's something, I guess.

Mayhem wants to make his own bread on the same day that I'm planning my bread and this is just adding to the fun. Yay.

I am going to make myself mess around with brackets in GameMaker at some point. But I also

Challenge #04426-L042: Not Made For You

There's only one rule in this dungeon, stay out of the places with bright light. That is an odd thing, for usually the light brings clarity. But here? It's used to fool the unwary unto danger. -- Anon Guest

One truth is known to those who build and keep dungeons: Adventurers like light. They're surface folk, they can't help it. For them, light is safety, security, and sanctuary. So there was a time that those who wished to discourage Adventurers put deadly

Challenge #04425-L041: Guided to Gaining Good Spirits

When is a cat not an ordinary cat? And when is a cat a link to a life-saving miracle worker? When that cat is named Lilbit, is immortal, and owned by an immortal elf living in the elf's cottage. -- Anon Guest

[AN: Wraithvine wanders. The cottage is a portable magician's tower in a dimensional pocket that's more a place to stay when no other venues are available.]

The cat was gloriously fluffy, and very confident. Her tail was high as she

Monday, Backup Reads and Mistakes Were Made

After a pack of weeks that hammered the 10th of this month into my head, it took one blog entry for the crossed wires there to be revealed. So I have everything lined up, but I don't have to take off before tomorrow.

Gotta love having ideals nailed in and having them ripped out next to last minute. Fun times.

Speaking of fun times, my first test of the latest version came up with an error, so now I'm messing around with

Challenge #04424-L040: Extremes of Limits

They did not believe humans could survive such extremes of temperatures when no other species could. The humans, for their part, considered it no worse than doing a polar bear plunge, and then jumping into a hot tub afterward. -- Anon Guest

[AN: I've heard of people rolling around in the snow after a sauna, not the other one. I'm sure it's "bracing"]

Seeing things like this, it's easy to believe that they're Deathworlders. The survivors of the volcanic cataclysm were sheltering

Sunday, Game Night and Preparations

I am making sure the battery is charged for my Christmas chainsaw. All so I can head on down to MeMum's tomorrow and help her be rid of some overgrowth in the way of other things.

The plus side is that she finally has the other side of her insurance claim finalised. Just one more room to go and all is theoretically well.

just in time for the next flood season

Fingers crossed, all the measures put in so far will prevent

Challenge #04423-L039: Swords and Ploughshares

The aliens didn't listen. They were SO sure that they could overrun the human colony and wipe them out. They were warned by others that you did NOT want to piss off the humans. Their civilization survived the aftermath, but they most certainly learned their lesson the hard way. -- Anon Guest

It was a beautiful world. Predictable weather, mild seasons, lots of arable land and the gentlest water cycle one could get. It was almost perfect. Just one tiny flaw.

Saturday, Parkrun and Testing Cycle

I think I have finally made all the stopgap functions for Pseuducku and, if it all works, I will have a HTML version to put up on the development log. Finally, an interactive experience... but not much of one.

Gotta acknowledge my limits, you know.

I have added gel pads to my super foot-friendly shoes, and I think it's made a difference. So too has swapping the side I use my cane on until my other heel stopped whinging about things.

Challenge #04422-L038: Not That Harmless

Not all havenworlds are harmless. Some, for the natives, it's paradise. But for those not native to it? A deathtrap. -- Anon Guest

The mistake everyone makes is believing that Havenworlders are weak because they were basically coddled for their entire evolution. What they miss is that the Havenworlder-Deathworlder scales are calibrated according to how much or how little the planetary system is amenable to the lives of its natives.

Flora, fauna, mycotta, weather, geology, microbiota, and other orbiting bodies within the
