Minecraft

A 23-post collection

Sunday, Game Night

I am sinking into Minecraft again, and I know exactly why. It's what I do when I have nothing I can do. It helps me feel like I'm getting something done.

Capt. S is on morphine, and doesn't have long. Beloved's going to be with her today, and I can't do anything.

Beloved is going through one of the worst experiences to survive, and I can NOT help.

So I fart around in Minecraft. Because it's something that I can do.

I shall make myself either do a chamber or do a void, today. I shall try to do a summary of five chapters. Something that I can do.

Everything's too expensive and we need more income, so I need to firkin SELL something. The more progress that I make towards that goal, the better.

I can't even afford any advertising -_-

All the more motivation to avoid publishers with reader's fees.

I shall be liveblogging my endeavours. Stay tuned.

Sunday, Game Night PLNs

There's no D&D this week. We're playing Minecraft together. Which means that I have to make a new profile for that noise. That will be happening after the story post goes through.

Today, I will be messing around on Minecraft. Working on my potential base in Creative. Or writing some more A Devil's Tale because it has me by the Muse.

The Lurgi that Miss Chaos brought home has definitely hit Beloved hard. So much so that she has to

Challenge #01568-D107: I Play to Relax, Damnit!

There was, after all, mad science to be done. Although it was only really mildly deranged science. -- RecklessPrudence

Curses filled the air. Since Amy wasn't one to curse, Tess left her bread in progress to investigate. "What's going on?"

"Therapy," said Amy. "I got recommended this... Minecraft... as a means to relax, but... this stupid stuff doesn't have any logic to it."

Tess finished drying her hands so she could lean on Amy's shoulder. Peering at the window, she read, "Redstone?

Challenge #00584 - A209: Don't Speak

Challenge: No dialogue. Any ‘verse

What struck her at first was the alienness of the world. Even before she had to ponder how she got here or what ‘normal’ was supposed to be.

Everything had right-angles to it. The things that were not cubes of… stuff… were flat, two dimensional objects, things that looked like paper props from a tinkertoy town, or moving creatures also seemingly made of cubes.

But it was real. She was there. And she

Threat of the MathMagician [OR: Are you smarter than an Australian 5th-grader?]

Here it is! The link is to the zip file and should instantly download. If it doesn’t, try right-clicking and select “save linked file as”.

This zip file contains information other than the map folder, which is clearly labeled. It was intended for teachers to use in classes, so teacher information is in its own folder. If you plan on using this as a single player,

I FINISHED!

I wrapped up the adventure map. I put the final punctuation mark in the last in-game text file.

I’ve written the teacher’s supplements.

I’ve transformed the map from Creative to Survival.

I’ve included the map, the texts, the supplements, the specialised texture pack and some bits of trivia, and put it all into a 43MB package on a stick drive that is currently residing with my house keys.

Tomorrow, I deliver the whole benighted

What I’ve been doing all this time.

I have spent the last couple of months intensively building a map. Which I have now finished.

These are a few, choice pix of what I’ve been up to.

My map is called Threat of the MathMagician and will be released on the interwebs real soon now. I have to deliver a copy to Mayhem’s teacher, first, and then it’s out into the world.

I plan on

A few highlights from my completed rooms.

I will share new rooms as they happen.

I had to do an ice-based jumping puzzle because they’re almost obligatory in Minecraft adventure maps.

…of course, if the player melts or breaks the ice, the whole set-up is ruined… And monsters float.

This room's about making bridges

World holes do happen in single player

The bonus room in the chamber of doors.

One Mayhem insisted on...

...turn on the lights, monsters

Progress at last!

After one computer broke down, got replaced with another [Best. Easter present. EVAR!], had the data transferred, re-set up Minecraft, had that holiday in Thailand, and figured out how to install an old save… I’m back in business.

Hu-freakin’-zah.

I know, last time I posted about this, I swore I’d never talk about the sewer level again, but whilst I was making the area level, some mob tripped the circuitry off and

Almost there!

Okay, so I’ve almost transferred all my files and folders from the dying laptop to my new lunchbox Mac. Yay.

I’ve installed Minecraft - essential!

And now I’m trying to find where the save games are so I can get on with the MathMagician Adventure Map.

Alas, things have changed and I can’t find the bugger.

I know it’s in ~/Library/Application Support… but I can’t remember where I

Dear Minecrafters:

Try the seed “Electric Light Orchestra” without the quotes.

I got a forest, next to a desert, and across the river - a jungle!

And almost right under the spawn point, there’s a spider dungeon attached to some nifty caves. Just look for the cave entrance between sand and forest. You should be good.

I built myself a treehouse with a rooftop garden [Seriously, what ELSE do you do with a jungle?] and a mine under one of

Last of the sewer level pix, I swear.

The finishing touch on the third floor is an array of randomly flickering lights in the ceiling.

Three concentric redstone repeater circles make a random signal generator. The rest of it is to take the signal to the lights.

When I finally moved on to build the next chamber, an asshat mob went and stepped on the triggering pressure plate, and damn near killed my computer. I’ve stopped all the circuitry, but

I’m taking my time with the sewer level.

It’s almost a month later, and I’m still working on this thing. As I write this [24 Mar] I am STILL stuffing dispensers with brownish objects and occasional representative junk.

And by “representative junk”, I mean: leather for dead animals, raw fish for fish, empty bottles, string, lilly pads, grass, iron fences, gravel, slime balls and pieces  of paper. Because it’s not just poo
