Friday, Whoops I'm in Beta

Yesterday's diary doodle covers an amazing leap forward for me. I thoroughly anticipated spending another fortnight arguing about Stage 3.

But no.

I got the sounds working in two goes. I refined the details of Stage 3 in a couple of hours.

I'm as shocked as you are.

But I'm not launching Beta until I get feedback from my target audience.

Today, I'm working on the menu system, and getting the popups to stay within the bounds of the game board if I'm lucky.

But first, the offerings. One video for Peertube, one for TubeTube, the daily tale, work on the novel, the rest of my socials... The usual drill.

Given the shocking success of yesterday? I have good hopes of getting that accomplished.

Let's get on with it.

Challenge #04561-L177: The Ultimate Scam

Mr Bad Example lives a life of plunder and scams, impersonating people, ripping off his workers, and changing identities whenever the heat rises too much. -- Anon Guest

[AN: I've been informed that there's a song called Mr Bad Example by Warren Zevon, so I can't use exactly that name for this piece.]

Alan Nemor had a gift. Primarily, he had the gift of being nondescript, but with a lot of charisma. He could change his hat and his coat and become

Thursday, Progress in Progress

Today, after I'm done with the daily offerings, I will be investigating building an improved version of Pseuducku while the Alpha version remains untouched on the website.

Fingers crossed, I can do that. Work locally and only push a version when I'm satisfied with how it's working.

I won't hit Beta until I get to Stage 3 working.

My agenda:

  1. Sounds. Buttons will click, ducks will quack victory for minor an total wins. There's also an "Uh oh" error sound for when

Challenge #04560-L176: Sanguine Apocalypse

Vampires have overrun the world, so humanity lives on at the poles where the sun always shines, conducting a treacherous twice yearly migration. -- Anon Guest

The world has gone to shit, but not in the way you might think. On the other hand, the climate change and overpopulation issues are solved. Also... not how you might think.

The Earth got overrun by Vampires.

Personally? I blame the kind of people who -er- wanted to "be friendly" with made-up monsters. There's a

Wednesday, Rant Due and Debugging

Finally got Pseuducku up and onto a host. Now I'm testing to make sure it functions properly. If all continues to be well, there will be a link appearing in this site.

Unriddling little glitches continues to be an issue, I guess.

Today's PLNs include another rant, possibly about the unavoidability of AI.

Update:

I just got it working. You can see it here.

My next step is figuring out how to edit locally until I'm satisfied with the next version.

I

Challenge #04559-L175: Highly Dangerous Knowledge

Somewhere amongst the countless rows of musty tomes and ancient manuscripts lies a cruel secret, waiting to be unearthed. -- Anon Guest

Librarians do more than guard knowledge. They also teach, but that's on the surface. They also preserve. The best libraries keep knowledge alive. Even the kinds of knowledge that should also be in a museum.

Clay and stone tablets can endure, but if you really want knowledge to last, scribe it on parchment with iron gall ink, and have it

Tuesday, Patreon, Experts, and Shopping

I may have been contacted by another scammer on Bluesky, but I'm recognising the pattern now.

Step 1: Alleged fellow author contacts me
Step 2: We talk shop for a bit
Step 3: They mention their amazing friend who's a marketing expert and will for sure help people notice my books
Step 4: They provide a contact detail for their amazing friend
Step 5: If pushed, they provide some proof of their prowess that might pass cursory inspection by someone who doesn't

Challenge #04558-L174: Era, Era, Tourist Fhtagn

A fun vacation ends with bringing home a little trinket, a squid headed god seated on a rune covered throne. Only, ever since, my dreams have grown ever stranger as a yearning fills me... -- Anon Guest

Don't touch that! Just... don't touch. Bad things happen to anyone else who touches that. Trust me, okay? You don't want the literally gory details.

Yes, I carry it around with me everywhere. No, I don't know if that's a good idea, but after what

Monday, Backup Reads and Video

The writer's group is meeting again and I'm waiting my turn to read mine. Then when that's done, I get on with commencing the video prep and the rest of my offerings.

Of course I already have a story for the Archive. I'm just Like That(tm).

Nothing too much going on beyond that. I think I shall attempt to do the cutscene art today. I have thought of ways to do some cheaty things and I shall see how that works

Challenge #04557-L173: We Meet Again

Sometimes Wraithvine went to places Bibrid could not go. The dragon, in guise of a gnome, would wait with patience for his friend to return. A small being with a misshapen foot, now older and with a home of their own, was seen hobbling along the path with a cane. Wort smiled, seeing their friend, and sat down the pack of firewood they were carrying so the two could sit and chat a while.

Sunday, Fun and Games

I'm now following through on the instructions Beloved gave me to make Pseuducku live.

It's taking a bit of a while.

So while that's going on, I'm writing. Of course. Working on the entry for this upcoming week in the writer's group contest. Then moving on to the daily tale, and so on.

Today's little victory - I have bread in the freezer! This means I may have bread to last the week. Huzzah. I'll still prepare like I expect Chaos to

Challenge #04556-L172: Stopgap Year

Reason allowed the young man to follow for a time. Even helped them get better clothing especially footwear. Used did not have to mean bad. They helped the youth find someone who could help them learn. And the two promised to remain friends even parting ways.

Reason could teach more than ritual magic. They could teach basic survival skills. Archery, foraging, how to prepare and clean a kill, basic cookery. Making certain the

Saturday, Parkrun and Pseuducku

I now know what to do to get Pseuducku online. I also know what happens when I hit the maximum of the free sample queries.

It's not a thing to worry about. Thank grop.

With luck on my side and maybe digging up a spoon to spare, I should get something online tonight or tomorrow.

I'm betting on tomorrow because I'm already pretty much shredded today.

Let's get on with the offerings.

Challenge #04555-L171: For Our Next Item...

A charity was having a big event and the grand prize was to spend the day with Wraithvine and hir dragon friend and go with them to the theater. Wraithvine, for their part, agreed to this because all of the money, save for paying the vendors for the big event, and the crew for set up and tear down, was going to rebuild a local hospital and a local childrens' home. -- Anon Guest

Big city. Bright lights. A festive atmosphere and
