Challenge #01483-D022: Portents of Doom

“You know the bad thing about being a survivor… You keep having to get into difficult situations in order to show off your gift.” - Carrie Fisher -- RecklessPrudence

"I wouldn't ordinarily complain about your... shenanigans," said the Cuidgari Security Chief everyone knew as Sherlock, "you have such a finely-tuned sense for skating on the borders of legality. But this is the third time this week. Are you bored, or have you and Rael had a... 'tiff' as you call it?"

"In me defence, I fergot it was a ten-day week," said Shayde. Technically an Ambassador, and nominally human. She had a... complicated backstory[1]. And, as it seemed, she lived to make life interesting for everyone around her. "That, and... er..."

That 'er' was a portent of doom if there ever was one. "I'm not a therapist. I'm not here for your confession. Talk to your... ah..." what was her outlandish phrase? "Snuggle buddy? He's at least been taking classes in therapy."

Challenge #01482-D021: All the Luck

“If my life wasn’t funny, it would just be true, and that is unacceptable” - Carrie Fisher -- RecklessPrudence

Kyle was a Lucker. One of the unfortunate few with the Luck gene. His bad luck was everyone's good, and vice versa. His 'range' was five Standard Distance Units, or he would be isolated on a small station just big enough for one. The universe, it seemed, liked balance.

Fortunately for Kyle, he had found an 'out'. He moonlighted as a stand-up

Day of rest?

There's markets on, today. Markets that we should be at by eight. They close at eleven.

Then there's a barbecue lunch at a friend of Beloved's from work.

By which time I will possibly be knackered again.

And I have to make certain that my kids' bags are packed and ready, that their lunchboxes are named, that Chaos' hair is treated again... this time with stuff that will not poison all participants.

Because Monday is a school day. And even more chaos

Oof and ow

So first thing, I managed to damage my wrists, yesterday. I also managed to poison myself with Chaos' anti-nit treatment. So I not only have the Runs, but also painful wrists.

So we're skipping Resistance Training. Due to ill health.

Then Beloved wants to go on a shopping spree. Which has taken us from about 9:30 this morning through to one in the afternoon.

So now all my spoons have gone, I have to schedule my Blasts From the Pasts on

Challenge #01481-D020: Carry the Light

'I don’t want my life to imitate art, I want it to be art." - Carrie Fisher -- RecklessPrudence

Auntie Mame is famous for saying, "Life is a smorgasbord, and most poor souls are starving to death." But even she would believe that Taerl Vincetti was taking things a bit too far.

She could have been the living embodiment of vanity, were it not for her belief that her life was a performance piece for all who happened to be in

Nothing much...

It's Friday, and I usually make myself write one thousand words in my WIP so I can finish of my 3K a week and have the weekends for whatever happens to be going on.

I'm trying to keep up with everything, but I'm starting to feel overwhelmed. And most of it's through making other people do the things they need to do in their day-to-day life. As well as getting myself up and at it.

So I have a creeping feeling of

Challenge #01480-D019: Facing Doubt

"Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow." — Carrie Fisher on pursuing dreams despite mental illness -- RecklessPrudence

Rael woke from his haze. His body hurt. That meant that the surgery had gone ahead. In lieu of recovering in an Intensive Care Patient Drawer[1], he and his warming tank were in a dimly-lit shelf in Medik Central. A young

Sorry I'm late

AN: This was supposed to be posted yesterday. I think it adequately explains why...

I have had a morning so hectic that it's lasted until this afternoon. I had just brewed up my salty broth, made sure Beloved had theirs, and then I asked a stupid question. Because we finally got the Christmas Bonus [towards the end of JANUARY], I asked if Beloved wanted me with them when they got the behemoth food processor of their dreams or whether they were okay

There goes our sleep cycle

AN: I forgot to post crap AGAIN?

Thanks to yesterday's workout, day out, and my insistence on playing on an Eliptical, we were exhausted by the time we came home. Sing was... okay. As a feelgood fun flick for the kids, it did its job admirably.

The important point is, pretty much the instant we got home? Beloved and I sacked out until nearly 3AM today. Ideal time for cooking? No! We had to clean the kitchen first, because... damn.

Also: We

Progress

With the new iPad and potential for doodling whilst writing again, I had motivation to clean up my office.

So I went from this:

To this:

I'm rather proud of myself.

I've got the whole family walking around the Long Block [roughly 2.5km] And yes, I still have that misspelled "Weird" framed by my desk. It reminds me how NOT to spell it. And I'm still proud to be weird, and that I did a pretty good job on the calligraphy.

Challenge #01479-D018: To Meet Like Minds

“Movies were meant to stay on the screen, flat and large and colorful, gathering you up into their sweep of story, carrying you rollicking along to the end, then releasing you back into your unchanged life. But this movie misbehaved. It leaked out of the theater, poured off the screen, affected a lot of people so deeply that they required endless talismans and artifacts to stay connected to it.” – Carrie Fisher, The Princess Diarist -- RecklessPrudence

Some stories, they say, are timeless.

Challenge #01478-D017: Popular Lies

Write about a false prophet. -- WriteAboutNowBlr

"And in the bright new age of reckoning, we will no longer have freeloaders sucking on the government teat," preached the man in the large, bright suit. "There will be no need for government! No need for taxes! Those who can fulfil a need will do so, and those who need will be sated!"

The crowd cheered. Of course they did. It was a message they wanted to hear.

"In this way, and in this

...ow

First Sprint Day of the new workout regime and, owing to the early rain, we decided not to chance running our arses off on wet roads, but stayed home and skipped rope.

Things to remember:

  • Neither of us have skipped since our last Skipathon in Primary School.
  • That time is now literally decades ago.
  • The goal of Sprint Day is to do a fast-paced activity until you literally can't do it any more. Beloved mentioned the word "collapse".
  • I'm fighting gravity worse

Challenge #01477-D016: One Fine Day in an Impoverished Neighbourhood

“I wish time would skip ahead. I got here too early.” -- WitterPrompts

Paul checked her watch. "You're right on time."

"No. I mean... the whole future thing. It's like... most of my time has been spent waiting for stuff that should have been here, already. Like... I dunno. Tablets should have always been there since my childhood, you know."

"And flying cars?" teased Paul.

"No. Dur. You can't have flying cars until after self-driving cars have taken over. Because, look at
