Challenge #04032-K014: Going Undercover

May we see the mission to the lands where ones such as this young human escaped from? And what became of the lands, and the cruel slave owners?

Vaphambryl. Picturesque Archduchy renowned for its fine arts and gloriously beautiful farms. Even those who visit rarely wonder where all the workshops are. There might be a few little hobbyists here and there, but they aren't producing the quality of detail evident in their exports.

Those are things made with love.

The things made for profit don't see the sunshine until after they're unpacked in the emporiums they're exported to. That's because the fine arts are made underground. No inspection before this one has found Vaphambryl's dirty little secrets. No inspectors looked hard enough at the barrows or boarded-off mineshafts. They'd have seen the hinges or found the mechanisms if they did.

Challenge #04031-K013: The Most Unlikely Rescue

It's snowing heavily and windy. But it's warm here, a fire is going, and I am very relaxed. -- Anon Guest

The howling of the wind, and perhaps some wolves, reached me first. Woke me up. Startled me into at least opening my eyes.

White.

It was deadly dangerous to fall asleep in snow. I had to get up. Had to find or make a shelter. Had to get my--

Challenge #04024-K006: Peacemakers Reunited

Fate was not done with Kosh, or his love, not by a long shot. They are reborn in two different noble families, and, as fate would have it, arranged marriages means they were fated to wed once more once the time came.

https://peakd.com/fiction/@internutter/challenge-03902-j250-lest-ye-be-judged-also -- Anon Guest

Fate's wheel turns. Lives are lived again, and turned about in the process.

Challenge #04021-K003: Unfair Comparison

When did it start? When did I start hating my brother? As long I can remember, he wasn’t at home. “Your brother is really amazing. When you were born he helped me a lot.”

“The young master? Since he was a baby he was reading everything. He really was a special boy.”

“Your big bro? He could already BAM when he was young. He’s my pride as a son. When he comes back I’m sure he’s gonna love

Challenge #04016-J363: Eldritch Custody

A: So you have three parents? How does that even work?

B: You might want to sit down. Ok my Bio-mom made a deal with a witch for arcane knowledge or something like that, while the witch didn’t know that she already made a deal with a demon to have his Child; which is me, in exchange for eternal youth.

A: How does that even work? Who do you live with? Who'd even have custody?

B: IDK they worked it out,

Challenge #04009-J357: Forging a New Beginning

Word of advice, never leave me alone near your junk pile. You'd be surprised at how useful junk can be! -- Anon Guest

Happier than a Gobelliin in a midden -- Alfarell saying.

People dismiss Gobelliin as filthy menaces whose only goal is chaos and destruction. They're barely recognised as Faekindred since they lost their inherent magic eons before the current era. Nevertheless, they are still outcasts. Forbidden from most of society, they go to where society dumps everything.

There, they make

Challenge #04006-J354: A Treasure Beyond Compare

"Evening! Oh put your weapons away, I don't intend to fight you. Need something? All this treasure? Oh it's not mine, you'll have to ask the kobolds and see if they'll share. Be nice, mind you, these guys are well trained to deal with your lot. My hoard? Heh, oh you mean my library, it's further back. Have any favorite books?" -- Anon Guest

Dragons have learned from the greed of Humanity. There's still the compulsion to hoard something, but they very

Challenge #04003-J351: Many Moving Parts

They were an elf, over 500 human years of age, yet their hair was cropped quite short, always. When asked why, they merely smiled and twitched the edge of their rather practical clothing and stated calmly "It's easier to take care of this way, and a lot cooler in the warmer months, too." -- Anon Guest

Hair has always been a mark of status amongst Elvenkind. They have measured their experience and perfections by how long they wore their hair. They judged

Challenge #03993-J341: The War on Plague

The entire city is on lockdown. The spotted sickness has come. They were calling to all who were willing, please help. -- Anon Guest

The disease was a terror. The young could survive it, true, but if they were too young, it could kill them. Similarly, if they were too old, it could also killed. Those lucky to survive could be scarred for life. Rendered blind, deaf, or pock-marked from their encounter. Some were turned simple from the fever. Some were impaired

Challenge #03988-J336: Mistaken Evaluation

They seemed soft, a pushover, weak. Because they wept into their beer over killing. The toughs decided to show the mouthy barmaid just how "good" they were after her remark about their mothers by trying to rough up the weakling. They learned, the person may be kind, gentle, soft.... but they've a backbone of raw steel. At least they let this lot live, though the lesson sure as hell hurt..... the toughs that is.

Challenge #03985-J333: Countermeasures

Spellcasters hate this fact but if you just stick your fingers in their mouth while they're casting a spell with a verbal component it's literally more effective than a counter spell. This also works with pinning their hands against the wall when they're trying to use somatic components.

Basically if you make out sloppy style while pressed against a wall the spellcasters can't do anything -- Anon Guest

Challenge #03983-J331: Snow Falls Fast on the Crown That Cares

"Those who actively seek power, seek a throne, will end up having neither, nor do they oft deserve them. Those who have such thrust upon them unwilling, and then seek to use them for the sake of others, realize the true weight, and are needed there." -- Anon Guest

Briar very rarely used her full name. It took up too much time and the people of U'ah had a long tradition of an 'urgency' eke name. "Baroness Henriette Bri'arillain Kalamitee U'ah, get

Challenge #03982-J330: Fishing With the (ex) King

"Uncle Kosh, what is the Blood Throne?" Asked the small child sitting at his side as they quietly fished together. -- Anon Guest

Kosh looked twice at the little Hellkin 'nibling[1]' sharing the riverbank with him. He hadn't thought he was that far from Trispire and he certainly wasn't outside of what used to be his kingdom. Hells, since he retired to the title of Baronet of Arachis, he didn't need to wear any kind of insignia. He avoided it

Challenge #03980-J328: The Most Treasured Thing

The one thing the dragon coveted in their entire hoard was not the gold, the gemstones, or the fine tapestries. It was a plain, wooden, statue given to them when they were but a hatchling. If someone came, respectfully, asking for aid, they did not mind sharing the rest, but don't anyone dare touch that one precious item. -- Anon Guest

A Dragon's Hoard is not what the legends keep saying it is. More often than not, they are things the Dragon

Challenge #03976-J324: A Cup of Relief

One leaf is brought in a small, black box. Sweet and flavorful, it has but one purpose. They are suffering. The leaf is placed in water, the tea is made. Their suffering will be alleviated and they will sleep, painlessly, forever. They knew this when asking for the leaf. Anything was better than the pain.
