Slowly Getting There

I took an actual day off, today. Well, most of a day off.

Possibly 50% of a day off.

Because a Mum’s work is never done. I can’t have a complete day off.

The dog got out and I had to go catch him. Invisible fences are looking increasingly attractive right now.

And I spent the afternoon teaching Mayhem (my eldest) that playing with the dog is fun.

That was exhausting. But fun.

But I didn’t get any writing done. Not one word. Not one line. Not even in a fanfic.

OTOH, I did get a whole page done, yesterday. At the pace I go at, that’s lightening speed.

When I write, I sometimes have pages and pages of ideas battling for priority. Sometimes it’s a battle to get one sentence out.

In the latter occasions, I need a break to let some more ideas percolate through my skull. Sometimes I just veg in front of the TV. Sometimes it’s Minecraft. Most of the time, it’s fanfic.

Today, I just slugged in front of the PC for half the day. Zen and the art of fartarsing around.

I did absolutely nothing and I loved it.

Why are the most enjoyable things the things that wind up wasting our time?

OWS - I Love That You're Doing Stuff

I love reading the posts about Occupy re-taking houses that were illegally foreclosed upon. I love hearing that Occupy helped prevent an illegal foreclosure.

I love that, despite all the setbacks and prohibitions rising up against it, the People’s Library is still going strong.

I love that people are sharing ideas to get their communities pointed in one direction against a common foe.

But, as I always tell myself [and others] when cleaning up a big mess - there’

Ow.

I’m going to have to work on leash-training the hound at home. Lord knows I lack the capability when out on our morning constitutional.

I left the check chain at home this morning. It wasn’t working to stop him tugging, and it was just hurting him.

Just the ordinary leash on his harness hurt my wrist from the near-constant pulling, but then I don’t matter.

I’m just a human.

Still, walking every day will

When

When we can look at another and not see their skin
Or their gender
Or their tattoos
Or their piercings
Or their hairstyle
Or their personal preferences
Or their politics
Or their social status

When we can talk to another and not argue
But accept
That everyone has a point of view

When we can see a task that needs to be done
And roll up our sleeves
And pitch in
Regardless of our own status
And get something done

When we

Glop

This is a family recipe that can be traced back to MeMum [Hi!] who could not make tuna rissoles to save her life. After a very trying day, she just gave up and fried the entire mess and called it Tuna Glop.

I’ve changed things around a bit and created All Purpose Glop

You will need these tools:

1 mixing bowl
1 method of mixing
1 satisfyingly enormous frying pan
1 spatula or big spoon
1 handy heat source, like

This is it.

The 14th post in my queue.

This means I can officially take a break from seeking blog material and go write some independent fiction.

Or, as I sometimes put it, I’m going to commit some literature.

Expect the next few blogs to be me honking on about my latest Work In Progress.

Unless something spectacularly heinous pops up concerning OWS and the corpratocracy’s slow collapse into malevolent dictatorship.

Or I get a funny idea.

I am Desperately Out of Shape

So I thought this morning, “I have to go to the chemists’. I’ll kill two birds with one stone and take the dog for a walk at the same time.”

Bad. Idea.

1) It was stinking hot
2) We both needed a drink by the halfway point
3) I forgot to bring water and drink containers
4) The best I could do for a hitching post was snagging the leash around an awning upright
5) Despite the

Minties and Fanta.

I’ve been asked about this, before. Primarily, I have been asked, “what the hell is a Mintie?”

Minties must be unique to Australia.

They’re a brand-name individually-wrapped sweet put out by Allans’ lollies. They look like a very small fire lighter cube and taste like an explosion of mint. Chewing them is like trying to bite through a half-frozen sausage. Don’t try it if you have temporary fillings.

Fanta is everywhere. Get the

Come on Hasbros

Your show, and its associated toy line, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic have been out for more than a year.

Selling stuff to girls should be important to you.

Not just important-in-america-important. Globally important.

You are doubtless aware that your show has gone viral. You know that people everywhere are clamouring for your product.

I, personally, would love to own legal copies of the show. And give legal copies to my friends and family.

Alas, that cannot be.

Just like the

A Poem - not mine.

Australia

When the shearing sheds are silent and the stock camps fallen quiet

When the gidgee coals no longer glow across the outback night

And the bush is forced to hang a sign, ‘Gone broke and won’t be back’

And spirits fear to find a way beyond the beaten track

When harvesters stand derelict upon the wind swept plains

And brave hearts pin their hopes no more on chance of loving rains

When a  hundred outback settlements are

Who's Your Favourite?

It’s inevitable, really.

The instant you mention you like My Little Pony, you get asked “Who’s your favourite?”

Isn’t it okay to love them all?

I don’t choose favourites. The things I love, I love equally as much. Love is a fountain that never diminishes, to me. It should be shared as such.

Which is why my imaginary harem contains a shapeshifter, a giant purple talking crab thing, and three different versions
