I Need a Day

I'm taking a break from my flash fanfiction today. I've been getting real dark of late and that's a sign of... something. I need a ray of hope. I need to stop looking at the news. I need...

I need a day of rest.

So, today, I'm focussing on the Instant, this blog, and that's it.

I'm calling it mental health. It might be a depression slump. I can't tell from here.

The news is dismal, my friends. My country's leaders are too afraid of Coal Moguls to take a stand for the environment. They're listening to money rather than the people. The conservative hate is taking over everywhere. Xenophobia, racism, sexism, loud people who can't tell the difference between playing fair and their entirely theoretical missing out... they're all taking over positions of power and attempting to force a status quo that the majority doesn't want.

Even if the Muppet and certain other world leaders don't up and decide to nuke the world, it's pretty much odds evens that the climate change catastophe won't be worked upon until it's literally too late to do anything.

We have the technology now to change things for the better, but we don't. Because the people with the money can't see how they'd be making more money when it happens.

Sigh.

This is why I need a day away from it all. Away from the potential to just... sink further.

I'm doing my Instant, and then I'm shutting down almost anything and playing some escapist bullshit.

Welp...

We just had to re-wire our household internet because mice, but before that, I had my entire site crash. So I wanted that to be a decent excuse for learning how to fix my own dang 500/502 errors.

Before I did that, though, the aforementioned internet rebuggering. In which we discovered that the cardboard box Beloved was using as an improvised server shelf was encouraging mice. Mice that nibbled through all the very important internet cables.

No wonder the internet was

You know what?

(Chicken butt)

Nah, but seriously. I think I'm going to keep monitoring my intake 'cause it seems to be working for me. Perhaps there's a psychological thing that triggers my brain into shifting the fat out or whatever, and just monitoring seems to work for some reason.

For example: The previously-mentioned glut of sugar and subsequent weight loss. See also the unaltered diet for the first few days with the altered weight loss.

I was good, yesterday. Deliberately choosing food options that

New Tactics

Usually, when waiting for Chaos' bus in the mornings, I devote a patch of my time to fanficcery. I've taken to using that time for progress on my novel. A few sentences or paragraphs here and there can make all the difference.

As in, all the difference between me having a patch of spare time and me not having any at all.

I've started downloading the Hero Kids kits I paid for. I may yet have time to read up and practice

Game day!

It's the Friday I've been looking forward to for what feels like forever. I get to go in and do D&D with Mayhem and even though tonight is likely going to be all plot&plan, I am STOKED.

One way or another, I'm going to learn about Homebrewing and I might enlist KIABIL to help out there since he's done that sort of thing before and actually knows the ropes instead of talking out of his arse.

Long rant

Falling off the wagon

I love too many things with sugar in them.

Which is why my weight is up into the 77 kilo zone. Further from my ultimate goal of a scientifically-mandated 70 that I'm supposed to be at. I really need to stay away from the sweet things, but... They're firkin delicious, dangit.

I gotta stay solid on the wagon for at least two weeks. Or eat minimum as is my usual wont until such time as I reach something approaching a happy equilibrium.

Ar En Ar

Having cleared 81K of B'Nar, I got in some good naps and some lovely steak at Hoggies. No surprise, I feel a lot better about my place in this world.

Sometimes, it helps to just... take a nap.

Of course, it's all because anxiety sucks. You get so stressed out that something snaps and the body's like, "F this S" and turns off all the adrenaline so all one is left with is the depression chemicals.

So now instead of being scared

Progress?

I know where the problem is with Gears of Spud - the nebulous idle clicker I was concocting. I need to make a CSS style sheet so the layout is cemented.

Which means that my next goal-oriented HAM days are going to have "Learn CSS" on there. What it is, how to use it, how to make sure it doesn't muck up. That sort of deal.

I do know it's a way to include HTML into whatever doesn't use it, so I

Another Full Day

I got a lot to do, of course. Another unfuckening of the house. Another Instant. Another 500 words. Another TAZ flash fanfiction.

Maybe I really am writing like I'm running out of time. Given the way the world is increasingly funked up, headed for assorted disasters - do you blame me?

I only have this life and I'm past my family average halfway point. Barring accidents and whatnot, I have my own lifetime left. Less than that.

If nothing else, I should

Fun Was Had

The adventuring party is on the cusp of a TPK because we're being zerg rushed by a bunch of demons. It's not looking good.

My throat is sore, I'm currently existing on less than five hours' sleep, and I can not sleep.

Plus I just got a comment on a recent story via my Wordpress, which is a fairly odd angle to approach things, but I'm willing to extend the benefit of the doubt. It's difficult to derive a complete story out

Burning at Both Ends Again

I give myself too many projects when I'm bored. Then I run out of time to do them because I overcommit to things. Then I burn out and get depressed and don't do any firkin thing.

It's a cycle. I'm trying not to ride it downhill this time around.

HAM only works when you have uninterrupted half-hours to do things. It's great for my day structure when there is no structure. When I gotta organise myself around other shit... it's not so

A New Way

Master Mayhem is 17. In many places, that means he's expected to handle things for himself. Including himself. Therefore, I am no longer chasing him to be ready at a certain time. This is going to be interesting. My lovely little lad has ever been the type to ignore my warnings and then get smacked in the face with the consequences.

Just as an example: Mayhem has emerged from the bedroom and is now wandering the halls looking for his school bag.

A flying start?

Mayhem went back to sleep three times this morning. He's going to need an early night tonight or he won't be prepared for school tomorrow.

Lad's in for some interesting times.

Meanwhile, Chaos is raring to go. I last saw her in her uniform and last heard her doing a giggle run up and down the hallway. She's all ready, already. Hooray. It's my dear darling Eldest who has to take a dose of personal responsibility.

He's going to get a lecture.

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

We had a very nice Australia/Invasion day, yesterday. I ate too much, even if it's healthy food, when you eat too much, you gain weight. Now I have an extra kilo to shake off so I might go another fortnight on the strict plan.

I'll ask for advice from Beloved in that regard.

Today, I was reminded of one very important thing I forgot to get sorted before Back to School - SHOES.

Therefore, at a later time, there shall be

Running around, today

It's Australia day, so the entire family is gathering in Scenic Coominya for the traditional burned offerings.

I didn't get anything done on my side-projects yesterday because my writing absorbed my personal energy (and that's okay). Plus the big plan of the evening was to visit Carl's Jr to try their carboriffic fare for my first feast day in a fortnight.

Burgers: delicious, juicy, and prone to fallout both liquid and solid.

Chips: less like a salt lick and more like a
