Challenge #04515-L131: A Taste of Home

Just like Mother used to make. A childhood treat, comfort food. There are thing that bring back memories from 'Granny's apple cake to 'Stretch the budget stew, where the vegetable crisper gets cleared out 3 days before pay day. -- She Who Knits

Far from civilisation as they knew it, far from the places they called home, scrounging together a meal out of whatever they had, the Adventurers were homesick. Huddled around the campfire, watching their meagre scrapings becoming part of their potential dinner of Thin Stew.

Odenath the Paladin applied salve to his burns. "Sorry I couldn't get more meat for everyone. This area's... hostile. More than I'm used to." He sighed and leaned back. "Gods, what I wouldn't give for Aunty Smorch's thick an' rich casserole right now. Big gobbets of meat and veg in the richest gravy you ever tasted, all covered in breadcrumbs toasted in the oven." He sighed at the memory.

Mel the Fighter kept stirring. "I miss me Mam's bread. It's all in the way she made it. Almost halfway to a cake, and the smell... Just the smell could turn a shit day like this into a great one." His smile was sad. "I wish I'd got the recipe off her."
