Happy birthday to me

This is the third year I've given away a story on my birthday for free. I have quite the stable of free tales but this is more introspective than most.

When you look at society, really look at society, you discover a great deal of unfairness based entirely on things an individual can not help.

Skin tone - society judges you within thirteen seconds and that prejudice remains. The darker your skin, the more threatening you are to paler people.
Genitals - you bet society is going to discriminate on that. If you have one set, you have all the advantages, if you have the other, you get all the judgement. And unwanted attention from the advantaged set.
Mental disorder - if it shows, you're going to get judged, babied and mistreated. If it doesn't show much, you get condescended at. If you can successfully hide it - you're faking and you don't need help.

It's ridiculous.

And this year, I wanted to highlight that by showing how much perfection in society's eyes costs.

I hope you enjoy it.

I had an adventure! (and I've been playing with new toys)

You may have noticed that yesterday's story was more than a teeny bit late. That was because Beloved took me on a trip to the movies. And shopping.

All birthday presents.

Don't panic, dear readers. There's still a bit of a while before October Fourth. [What I really want for my birthday is for one of my stories to go viral. Or loads of book sales.]

As for the swag, I got what every writer loves to get - PENS! But these

Who's ready for something new?

Today's the day I start working on my forum prompts. Which means I have to learn an entirely new way of doing things, including crediting the peeps who prompted me in the first place.

But first - Beloved is taking me to go and see The Martian because they are made of awesome <3

My life is on the cusp of sucking, but don't worry

Good news: Beloved is keeping the day job. We're nominally financially stable for the foreseeable future.

Bad news: The help I'm getting for Chaos is due to run out just when we need it the most.

Good news: It was hellishly expensive and borderline unafordable, so we'll have slightly more money next year.

Bad news: Which will be too late for me to get enough shit together for experimental stuff to help Chaos with.

I feel like such a whiner about this.

It never rains...

It firkin floods.

Bad news has a tendency to snowball around me. I don't just get one bucket of poop descending upon my life like a fateful, fragrant comet. No. I get trucks of it. By the dozen.

And there is something drastically wrong inside my head that makes me blame myself for shit that's out of my control.

Beloved's work superiors act like whiny, micro-managing idiots and make Beloved want to quit? Somehow, it's my fault. Fandom friend some literal thousands

Ch-ch-ch-changes...

Every morning, I have been waking up to something new happening on this site. And it's all because of Beloved. They're spending their precious free time on tweaking, primping, and otherwise fancifying my blog for you.

Today's feature is a Subscription button WAAAAAAYYY down on the bottom of the menu. Don't worry, it's free.

What you get out of subscribing is a simplified feed of everything that goes into my blog. I have to assume that it's mobile friendly because said feed

And speaking of technical hitches...

I hadn't ticked a checkbox that I really should have checked, and the two prompts I thought I had are -uh- not there.

It's all in working order now. To give me a prompt, all you have to do is click "Feed the Muse!" in the menu. You will then be able to create a New Topic with your prompt.

Yay.

This is the only place that I allow anons to play like this, so I kind of expect a little responsibility
