No business today

Chaos is due to seek help in Maroochydore again. And it's one heck of a long-ass trip there and back. The sooner that the nearer clinic has help for her, the better.

The metallic sharpies have a nib width that's too wide for legible printing, so Beloved and I went on an emergency run to Officeworks by way of Spotlight for something a little narrower. So now we won a double brace of metallic gel pens that are, quite frankly, made of awesome.

$500 3D printer + $5 gel pen + 50c zip tie == firkin genius.

We're still in the testing stage, and the bed needs straightening, but it is most definitely there.

Once it's all working, I can print fifty, bifircate them, punch holes in them, and have one hundred cards almost ready for shipping. We just need a rig to assist in the folding.

I want my first products to look as professional as if they'd come out of a factory, instead of off my kitchen table. This might bite me in the arse, later on... but I think looking professional will get me return business.

Meanwhile, once I'm done with today's story... I will be taking my lappy with me so I can work on something while I'm out. I'm putting together my nut notes for my upcoming WIP, Beauties and the Beastly. A steampunk adventure with werewolves, genderfluid heroes, gays that live, and assorted nonsense.

It's based [very loosely now] on that gifset that shows Victorian ladies how to escape werewolves with perfume and petticoats. I might yet have a scene like it in the book. Someone find it for me so I can link it tomorrow?

So close...

I really want to be able to start making earrings on Monday. I have a plausible workspace set up. I just need to sort all my beads, findings, and whatnot before tomorrow.

If I can put in a minimum of two hours' work a day on designs, then that means stock in abundance. I know that if I put in too many hours at jewellery, my body pays for it.

I'm in the last stretch of bead sorting. Which means that I've

Beads, glorious beads!

I've got loads of the fuckers, and I'm planning to get some more. Turns out the local post office has a jewellery stand with some interesting pieces I could definitely use. Alas, I have to wait for next payday.

So if I am still going there to collect parcels, I might grab me some nice looking beads to fluff out my already huge collection of interesting shiny things.

MeMum managed to secure a good two kilos or so from her own sources.

Secondary skills

In the words of Odo when Quark questioned his interest in funerary rituals, "Everybody needs a hobby." It didn't come in to the Hevun's Child trilogy, because almost everyone I was writing about literally did not have the time to kick back, relax, and faff around.

I glimpsed at it in The Amity Incident but by and large, the entire human colony were a bunch of nerd whose primary focus was their better future. The luxury of messing about with things to

Signs of progress?

Yes, I'd love some. I looked up the status of my nineteen parcels for EGDB, and nothing has yet shifted. I've also discovered that Auspost is absolute shit at tracking things from China.

I can't wait for the day that I'm big enough that I won't have to worry about this shit.

Chaos keeps complaining about being forced into a Dutch Braid rather than a French Braid. All her arguments are currently illogical so I guess I'd better actually show her why

Birthday Embuggerance

Miss Chaos is turning eleven in a little over a week. Her fondest wish is to see Steam Powered Giraffe. That's more than a little beyond our means, right now.

The best I can do for her is to fill her iPad with as much Steam Powered Media as I can.

Her second prize, "purple sparkles", is going to manifest in some hand-crafted jewellery. As soon as I find something suitably purple and sparkly. Fellow relatives are welcome to find as many

What a week

Today's a relatively quiet day. In that I get to spend a majority of it at home and writing.

BUT, I'm also taking the family to get stuck in the arm this afternoon.

Not something to look forward too, really, but it's something that must be done.

On the scrattle news, thirteen of my nineteen separate parcels are on their way from Asia to me. I should be able to track them, come next week. Alas, since it is free postage, I

The ball is rolling...

Perilously close to $200AUS worth of findings and assorted shiny things have now been purchased, and according to my inbox, they're coming in 19 separate orders.

I'm not kidding. Check this shit out:
[There's one more that didn't fit on my screen]

So between five business days and nine business days, all of the assorted crap I've purchased will be winging its way from factories in China all the way to my sunny shores.

Which will give me plenty of time to

Getting committed

No, the men in the nice white shirts with the interesting coat for me to wear have not turned up to take me away. I made myself sit down and actually line up the things I am going to get for my blossoming jewellery shop.

Yes, dear readers, Every Girl Deserves Beautiful is going to become a thing!

My primary focus will be pride earrings1, but I can also do steampunky charm earrings or just intricate shiny things that are not

Passing for normal

My health is back up to baseline. Yay. I can finally stop procrastinating on the things I really should have done days ago.

For instance, I booked my little darlings and I an appointment to get stuck in the arm with a sharp stick. And since it's vaccinate or die when it comes to the flu shots, for me, I choose vaccinate.

Please vaccinate yourself, your little darlings, and push everyone you know to get jabs. It helps protect people like me

Damn it...

I've been meaning to get the Flu shot for a few days, now. Scheduling and my own scattered brain have frequently got in the way. And now it might be verging on too late because I think I'm getting a lurgi.

Scratchy throat, general feeling of nausea, mild aches that could also be me growing old. And a constant feeling of fullness that is in direct conflict with the fact that I have not eaten very much at all.

Seriously. I had

The best-laid plans...

Have gone so firkin agley that they turned out to be un-plans. Wuzgunnas, in fact.

I wuzgunna go and get myself a set of orthopaedic sandals so I didn't have my foot-sweat trying to eat my feet in my already orthopaedic trainers. BUT... the initial model I wanted was both suddenly too expensive [the price had seemingly gone up from $79.95 to $109.95] but also lacked the heel cushioning I desperately need in order to walk with relative ease. The

Sneezin' and Wheezin' Season already?

I'm going through the tissues like they're going out of style, right now. It could be my hardy perennial self-neglect at at work, because I've not been taking my supplements... or it could be Sneezin' and Wheezin' Season.

Allergies are such fun.

I have a whole lot of sniffling and snorting and coughing and horking up linings of my bronchial tubes to look forwards to. For extremely limited definitions of "look forwards". Sneezin' and Wheezin' Season is hell. And I have one

Firkin sleep issues

I woke up at 3AM again.

This time, I'm keeping a journal of my wakings and potential causes. See if there's a pattern. Confirm or deny what I already suspect.

And what I suspect is - my brain is its own worst enemy.

When I woke this morning, a weird dream turned into a real logistics battle in my head and then my thoughts wouldn't shut the fuck up. So I got up and worked on some fanfic because trying to go

Ah, Monday.

One more day of relative peace and quiet and I didn't get anything that I was gassing about doing... done.

Oh well.

We have plentiful amounts of foodstuffs, thanks to a trip down to Golden Circle and Dicksons' [and more money was spent on Unsuitable Food than what you might call the genuine article]. I do have a bargain tray of Chook Thighs, so that and some simmer sauce is doubtless going to come to a pleasant arrangement in the not-too-distant future.
