A game of paranoia and survival, in a drugged-out, dystopian English city in 1964. From the studio that brought you Contrast.
It’s a first-person game, set in a procedurally generated, fully 3D city that you must escape before society collapses around you. But, like any good roguelike, you’re probably going to die a few times before you figure out how it all works.
You will need to learn how to conform and avoid suspicion. You will need to hunt for supplies, and craft the devices and weapons that enable you to make it out of town alive. What do the Wellies approve of you doing? What makes them suspicious? What turns them into a homicidal mob? And is there anyone here who can help you?

Wait, isn’t this just another Bioshock? Like practically another clone of Bioshock?
No. This is a rougelike, survival, “stealth in plain sight” game and you don’t get magic powers from taking the drugs, you can overdose and lose your memory– which results in the game generating a completely new map for you. It’s more along the lines of Don’t Starve if anything. Except if Don’t Starve took place in a city where you were trying very hard to blend in with the locals or they’d kill you.
So it’s basically Bioshock infinite? When I first saw it and read about it I honestly thought you were talking about Bioshock infinite.

The basic plot that we’ve been given is this: During the German invasion of England during the War, the people of Wellington Wells had to do a very bad thing. In order to deal with the immense trauma of said mysterious, awful thing, they invented the drug Joy. You play as a character off their Joy– a Downer– and your goal is find out what happened and escape Wellington Wells, while the Wellies do everything in their power to bury the truth and the pain deep, deep, deep down.
Gameplay itself is largely focused on crafting, survival (food/water/sleep), and stealth, with combat being an option but not a favorable one. Each map is randomly generated, you never play through the same Wellington Wells twice.
Though Jenner’s coming out marks a huge moment for trans visibility in the mainstream media, daily discrimination and violence is still the norm for thousands of transgender Americans. I’m continuously terrified that people will think LGBT rights is a finished fight as soon as marriage equality passes nationally. There’s still so much extremely important stuff to get to. Marriage is not an end goal.
This is a gentle reminder that while the Supreme Court Decision to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states is a wonderful thing, the backlash will likely lead to an increase in violence against LGBTQ people in states where same-sex marriage was previously banned. Bright-ish idea occurred to me that I should probably read the BEST bits out of each book?

So, in past posts I have recommended Kindle Publishing to people interested in self-publishing. But due to the shocking changes they are making to their royalties policy, I will no longer do so.
In the past, when you bought a book self-published in Kindle, Kindle Publishing would pay the author royalties as a percentage of the price of that book - as is the norm in the industry.
