Bad news, good news

Seems to be the way whenever I'm working on KFZ, that things gang aft agley.

This time, MeMum's compy has decided to do its impersonation of a second-hand lawnmower and play up. Or break down. Which means that she calls in instead of sending an email.

On the same weekend that I am potentially available to help with that, my Beloveds parentals are planning to pop over and celebrate the marking of Mayhem's trip around the sun.

Chaos is still crook, so I have made arrangements to drag the poor mite to the local quacks. But her illness also falls on a day that we had planned to talk about her eligibility for free braces. Huzzah. Can't go spreading Lurgi all over a dental van, of course.

So I also have to call the dental van people when I'm certain they're awake and tell them that Chaos is still crook and, with all good luck, there might be a chance to talk to them next week sometime. Assuming they're not booked as hell for another two months.

See what I mean about my life going sideways?

I've done the synopsis. I've closed the files (for now), but I still have to check my primary choice's checklist for anything else I might have to do. I already put the elevator pitch in the first few lines of the synopsis.

I probably still have to do my desired blurb and author bio nonse. That shouldn't be too much trouble. Right? HAHAHAHA who am I kidding? The editor for my posts has gone do-lally again and won't accept a tag until after I've posted it.

Sideways!

I'm not inviting anything to happen and I'm hoping to heaven that the mishaps that are -well- happening... are just a co-incidence and it completely fails to spread. I don't want anyone else having a sideways life.

I wrote a cursed book

Well, that's the half-joke. During most of 2014, I was working on a novel entitled Kung Fu Zombies, which threw a lampshade on every zombie trope and every kung fu trope I could make fit. And possibly a bunch of American survivalist tropes as well.

For all the fun I had writing the bloody thing - my life went sideways in a big way. Disasters big and small plagued my life. Culminating in the death of my father barely a week before

Is there a cure for Fail yet?

I started my morning at 3AM, following a dream in which I saw a partial clip for a new music video from the best band in the world] The bit I remember is Chelsea and Camille doing Busby Berkeley style ballet on giant red steps while dressed in articulated metal snowflake costumes.

My subconscious is a very strange place.

And the thing that ALWAYS happens when I dream about my absolute favourites happened - I woke up. But I also woke up

I fail at human

My brain, as Thomas Dolby once sang, is like a sieve. I don't intend to forget things? But... it happens.

And when one of those things is as simple as checking my email as part of the process that makes sure my mother is still okay... I really fail at human.

Aliens, come take me away, because I am very obviously not of this world.

I'm at the stage where I have to scribe reminders on the back of my hand or

Anxiety sucks

I've been having a little executive dysfunction, lately. Dawdling about things because I'm secretly scared of everything that could possibly go wrong. And everything that could impossibly go wrong, too. Because I like scaring myself, apparently.

As I frequently say when I give myself the horrors, my brain hates me.

I still don't know why I'm scared to send in the tax form to Smashwords. It's just one of the many things about me that make no sense whatsoever.

And I'm

Weekends, Hooray!

I love weekends. They give me a chance to fart around and do nothing much.

Since I spend my Fridays doing 1K, it means that Saturday and Sunday are both days to laze around and faff about. Both are important parts of the writing cycle. Both lead to excessive amounts of daydreaming which lead to more fiction! Yay!

In my case, it means fiction that I don't have to write, which you will get to see over on my baby forum whenever

Wiki Walks and how they fuel me

For those who've never been on one, a Wiki Walk is where you look up one topic [for example, on wikipedia] and follow interesting areas down a rabbit-hole. Only to emerge somewhere around Real Ghost Stories or Cryptids Near Me wondering how the hell you got there from where you started.

Today's Wiki walk started with Extra Credit - which covers a lot of interesting things, including various languages you can tell a story to an audience in, and I'm not talking

Well that sure worked

It was census night last night. Fortunately, in an effort to go paperless, the Aussie Government decided to allow the citizens to fill out all the census information online.

UNfortunately, this was a massive cock-up because the people running this country have no idea what happens when about twenty-three million people attempt to log into the same URL at once. They could have looked up "DOS attack" before they started. Really.

Also unfortunately, lots of the old-fashioned paper forms have been lost

Self-maintenance is not "work"

I've come to the realisation that I class my self-maintenance regimes as "work". As in, I tend not to do them when I'm having a relax day.

This is bad.

I need to maintain myself because the backslide takes a lot of time to recover from. And it's happening faster and steeper as I get older.

I also need to keep in contact with MeMum because Time is a bastard. I am a scatterbrained doodle and this week makes it worse.

Ugh.

Ekka Monday! Yay

Welcome, one and all, to the most frelled-up school week in Queensland. Because of the Royal National Agricultural exhibition, everyone has Wednesday off, and various school children in various districts get an extra day of the week off of school.

If that extra day happens on a Monday, then you get an awful lot of sickies being thrown on the following Tuesday. Or, as we like to call it, "the super long weekend". Similar things happen to the Thursday if the day

Things that make my day

Nothing much happened yesterday, and nothing much is planned for today. So instead of complaining about that, or revelling in it... have a list of things that cheer me up in no particular order.

  • Really good chocolate
  • Hot bubble-baths
  • Snuggle time with Beloved
  • Actually catching an SPG art stream while I'm awake
  • Making a quality pun and watching everyone else slowly collapse from the pain
  • Steam Powered Giraffe in general
  • Steam Powered Giraffe in person [Ultra-rare!]
  • No-brand cheap-as-F tea with 3 sugars

Ah, weekends...

I have plans to do not a lot of anything very much and I am going to LOVE it.

And since it's a long weekend, that's even better. Nothing much to do for three days. My only responsibility will be my writing. A nice, relaxing slob-around.

You watch. Something's going to happen to muck that nonse up.

The best-laid plans of me in particular always go agley. It's a sad truth. Good thing for me that I'm pretty flexible.

For the terminally

I need to mainline caffeine

Woke up at 3:30 AM because my back decided to hate me. Fitful sleep thereafter because Beloved snores. Beloved snores because their sinus is clogged up and won't use my nasal luge kit.

Same clogging of the sinuses that gives Beloved a lack of sleep that makes it my duty to see the kids to school in the AM. Regardless of how much or how little sleep I've firkin had.

I'm wrecked.

This is the third night in a row that

Uuuuuuuggghhhhh...

Last night was not a great night. For a start, I was worn out from all the shenanigans outlined in my last real-life blog entry. I was tired and worn out and out of spoons. I should have slept the sleep of the unjust.

Nope.

I could not settle. Every car coming by could be the car that brought my Beloved home. I finally fell into a fitful slumber, only to wake once more in what I presume was the wee small
