YouTube's Ban-Bot and Why it Has to Die

YouTube has a little automated gizmo that scans a submitted work and flags it according to whether or not it contains previously copyrighted material.

It does not evaluate whether the work is Fair Use.

Thus, every time I submit a video these days, I get a nice, automated email saying my submission has been flagged as containing someone else’s stuff and I have to go file a protest to get it unbanzored.

Theoretically, the ban-bot should be flagging outright copyright

Slowly Getting There

I took an actual day off, today. Well, most of a day off.

Possibly 50% of a day off.

Because a Mum’s work is never done. I can’t have a complete day off.

The dog got out and I had to go catch him. Invisible fences are looking increasingly attractive right now.

And I spent the afternoon teaching Mayhem (my eldest) that playing with the dog is fun.

That was exhausting. But fun.

But I didn’t

OWS - I Love That You're Doing Stuff

I love reading the posts about Occupy re-taking houses that were illegally foreclosed upon. I love hearing that Occupy helped prevent an illegal foreclosure.

I love that, despite all the setbacks and prohibitions rising up against it, the People’s Library is still going strong.

I love that people are sharing ideas to get their communities pointed in one direction against a common foe.

But, as I always tell myself [and others] when cleaning up a big mess - there’

Ow.

I’m going to have to work on leash-training the hound at home. Lord knows I lack the capability when out on our morning constitutional.

I left the check chain at home this morning. It wasn’t working to stop him tugging, and it was just hurting him.

Just the ordinary leash on his harness hurt my wrist from the near-constant pulling, but then I don’t matter.

I’m just a human.

Still, walking every day will

When

When we can look at another and not see their skin
Or their gender
Or their tattoos
Or their piercings
Or their hairstyle
Or their personal preferences
Or their politics
Or their social status

When we can talk to another and not argue
But accept
That everyone has a point of view

When we can see a task that needs to be done
And roll up our sleeves
And pitch in
Regardless of our own status
And get something done

When we

Glop

This is a family recipe that can be traced back to MeMum [Hi!] who could not make tuna rissoles to save her life. After a very trying day, she just gave up and fried the entire mess and called it Tuna Glop.

I’ve changed things around a bit and created All Purpose Glop

You will need these tools:

1 mixing bowl
1 method of mixing
1 satisfyingly enormous frying pan
1 spatula or big spoon
1 handy heat source, like

This is it.

The 14th post in my queue.

This means I can officially take a break from seeking blog material and go write some independent fiction.

Or, as I sometimes put it, I’m going to commit some literature.

Expect the next few blogs to be me honking on about my latest Work In Progress.

Unless something spectacularly heinous pops up concerning OWS and the corpratocracy’s slow collapse into malevolent dictatorship.

Or I get a funny idea.

I am Desperately Out of Shape

So I thought this morning, “I have to go to the chemists’. I’ll kill two birds with one stone and take the dog for a walk at the same time.”

Bad. Idea.

1) It was stinking hot
2) We both needed a drink by the halfway point
3) I forgot to bring water and drink containers
4) The best I could do for a hitching post was snagging the leash around an awning upright
5) Despite the
