Challenge #00531 - A156: Hidden in Plain Sight

“But, how did you know that the file contained their secret plans for world domination?”
“Because it was labelled ‘secret plans for world domination’.” — RecklessPrudence

K’orvoth could not believe that the humans would be that stupid. Or stupid enough to lable said plans in all known languages where anyone could read it.

Or to leave such things on an unsecured commconsole in the open.

He could not believe this windfall. “Decrypt it at once,” he ordered. “We will soon see how these humans plan to conquer us and foil them at every turn.“

The progress bar was alarmingly fast…

Then every monitor on K’orvoth’s vessel began playing the same data. Syrupy, synthesised chords filled every speaker. A human in loose-fitting clothing danced like a spavined marionette against a pastel background.

"Oooh… We’re no strangers to love,” it sang in Human. “You know the rules and… so do I…”

*

“What do you mean, you ‘Rickrolled the entire enemy fleet’?”

“Um,” Tahir tangled her fingers. “Well… I never thought they’d fall for my honey trap? So… I kinda made the virus file super-agressive? Andum… it’s spread like wildfire.”

“Officer Tahir, there is a special blend of genius and outright lunacy. I think you got the gold-plated version.”

Tahir grinned like an embarrassed school kid. “Uhm. Thanks?”

It's not FAIR!

I did everything right.

I took my sleep-aid.
I had my relax-o-tron on.
I made certain I was comfortable.
I knew I was tired…

AND I STILL GOT IRREVOCABLY WOKEN UP AT 1AM AND I’M TIRED BUT I CAN’T FRIGGIN SLEEP AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

It is NOT fair.

Hey - I remember reading your 'Nightcrawler Movie' script a number of times a few years ago. I really enjoyed it. After rewatching the X-Men...

internutter:

I’ll run a search for it when I get back home, but rest assured that all my old ficcery that still exists will be appearing on my AO3 account.

I’m currently working on putting up Don’t Pity Me at a pace that won’t wreck my wrists [aka: that of a herniated snail] but I will put the Nightcrawler Movie on my queue :)

Addendum: The nightcrawler movie fic still exists and will be heading to AO3 just as

Problem is, it was likely (to him) a legitimate question. Like any movement, feminism has attracted extremists who work under the good name...

Yes, there are bad feminists. There are racist feminists and trans-exclusionary feminists. There are vocal minorities of all flavours.

Including the Rancid-MRA set who blame women for the social troubles caused by the existing patriarchy.

It seems to me that the real problem is that some men won’t take a step back and realise how much they have in comparison to what the others don’t.

I’ll put my hand up at wanting to see a few ‘bad types’ squirm.

1. Are T'reka and her kind part of the Amalgam Universe, or something else altogether? and 2. As an American, I find "Numurrica (deceased)"...

1) Absolutely. I’m not going to throw away a universe’s mechanics on a stand-alone book. [The Amity Incident is still in progress, but it should be out sometime in 2015] The Numidid and the planet Amity are firmly in Amalgam Universe.

2) Numurrica is one of those colony worlds that imploded. It’s only mentioned in an instant story featuring archaeologists digging up the remnants.

As a foreigner, I can’t help but watch America and

Challenge #00530 - A155: The Human Effect

First submission since the identification of an ableist slur. Edited from original form, thusly:

I love the image of his brain just clearly rebooting because too much ridiculousness and unbelievability is hitting it at one time. – RecklessPrudence

Harry stared up at the edifice that was Security Chief ‘Sherlock’. It was hard not to. Sherlock stood at 6'4" and she was a diminutive 5'2".

“…i know i’m in trouble, there’s no need

You seem to have two or three internally-consistent worlds that that keep popping up on your challenges. Would it be possible to get the...

Well, I do have a pet universe. Nicknamed the Amalgam Universe because of the central(ish) location Amalgam Station.

1) Wormholes exist, but they’re actually passages into a nearly-parallel universe where time is a physical phenomenon. Large enough time pockets cause one-way wormholes which enterprising colonists travel down [post Seeding] to make a world in their own image.

Regular wormholes do not have large temporal pockets, though smaller ones can cause damage to ships.

People of all kinds use wormholes

Challenge #00529 - A154: The Problem With Tired Old Plots

Free day!

There are a certain number of possible reactions to finding out that one is temporarily invisible and inaudible to the rest of the crew aboard the vessel you all share.

FUCK!” is in the top ten.

So is, “This is a plot from a bad science fiction series!”

As well as a solid string of curses old and new.

Jabrelle went through the entire top ten before she settled down and attempted to get a grip. She wouldn’t have

OK, so I just saw the most recent movie about Pompeii

Starring Ned Stark’s Bastard, Jon Snow.

Let me tell you, this time, it was the scriptwriters who know nothing.

I knew more at age 7 about Pompeii than the scriptwriters did for this piece of shit.

It passed the Bechdel test, it didn’t pass the Brown test [none of the POC characters spoke to each other].

And they could. Not. Get ONE. Actual. Historical. Detail. Correct.

The fuckers.

Pompeii is like THE most well-known of the historical natural
