ultrafacts:

Officials assigned the trees ID numbers and email addresses in 2013 as part of a program designed to make it easier for citizens to report problems like dangerous branches. The “unintended but positive consequence,” as the chair of Melbourne’s Environment Portfolio, Councillor Arron Wood, put in an email, was that people did more than just report issues. They also wrote directly to the trees, which have received thousands of messages—everything from banal greetings and questions about current events to love letters and existential dilemmas.

“The email interactions reveal the love Melburnians have for our trees,” Wood said. Here are some emails Arron shared.

I’m so sorry you’re going to die soon. It makes me sad when trucks damage your low hanging branches. Are you as tired of all this construction work as we are?

To: Algerian Oak, Tree ID 1032705

Dear Algerian oak,

Thank you for giving us oxygen.

Thank you for being so pretty.

I don’t know where I’d be without you to extract my carbon dioxide. (I would probably be in heaven) Stay strong, stand tall amongst the crowd.

You are the gift that keeps on giving.

We were going to speak about wildlife but don’t have enough time and have other priorities unfortunately.

Hopefully one day our environment will be our priority.

Dear Green Leaf Elm,

I hope you like living at St. Mary’s. Most of the time I like it too. I have exams coming up and I should be busy studying. You do not have exams because you are a tree. I don’t think that there is much more to talk about as we don’t have a lot in common, you being a tree and such. But I’m glad we’re in this together.

Cheers,
F

thinking about robot butts because I am SPG trash

OKay. So I have this headcannon that Walter Robotics’ genuine robots have the WR emblem stamped on the left cheek of their -ah- ass plates.

And I’m thinking about this further and realised that you could line up the robo-asses and get a rough timeline of Walter Robotics emblems throughout 118 years

Rabbit, still having a majority of her original 1896 parts, would have a pre-WR emblem. Either a Victorian-style monograph of Pappy’s initials, or the my-headcannon-only Walter Mechanicals, which

Challenge #00902-B171: In a Shared Domicile on Amity...

Random number prompt - use a random number generator and redo a prompt from the first year of instants - do NOT read the first story before writing the new one.

[AN: The random number was 133: Anywhere in the story: “The element of surprise didn’t so much rest upon someone hearing you but registering the significance of your approach.” (I hope altering one word counts)]

There was an important lesson in here, somewhere. Living with Deathworlders taught them well. Continuing

“Where shall we three meet again?” a young, slightly uncertain voice asked.

“Not here, this coffee is piss,” a loud, gregarious voice answered, drawing the attention of everyone in the coffee shop to her.[1]

“Nanny!”

“What, it is!”

“Too full of itself also,” a third voice chimed in. “I asked for a small coffee and they told me I needed to ask for a ‘short’. What kind of nonsense is that?”

Magrat Garlick resisted, barely, the urge to put her

Challenge #00901-B170: Strange Creatures

Alternate universe prompt: The X - Mares

[AN: Of course I instantly thought of MLP:FiM]

Things went very quickly bad when the entirety of Ponyville discovered that Fluttershy’s strange friend was stranger than they had believed possible.

His glowing eyes almost bugged out of his head. He smiled with sharp, sharp teeth. He vanished in a puff of sulphur. He didn’t have hooves. He had paws. And his tail… was more like a dragon’s than a pony’

Help a single mother and baby out by reading short stories for free!

Hello! My name’s Molly (pen name Marie Bellamont) and I created Jester’s Athenaeum. It’s an ongoing collection of short stories that can be read either individually or as a series. Some are black comedy, some are just silly parody-like humor, all are surreal fantasy. I post them online so that they can be accessed for free, but accept donations from those who are willing and able to pay what they think the stories are worth.

I met a couple Australians this weekend and they introduced me to what is possibly the greatest phrase in the English language. Apparently, a common response to a wide variety of questions is “I’m not here to fuck spiders”. It means “I’m already doing that” or “Obviously, yeah”. So like, example usage:

At the bar with a friend.
Friend: do you want to get a beer?
Me: well, I’m not here to fuck spiders.

Challenge #00900-B169: Mama Bear

Murphy’s law of Babies 2:  Toddler gone? It’s with the humans.

Nita almost didn’t notice the curious little Numidid until she nearly stepped on the poor child. She was big for a human, and this little scrap of pinfeathers barely cleared her boot.

“Whoops,” she said. “Hello, little peep. Where did you come from?”

Alas, the tiny child was still talking Scribble. Multilingual Scribble, but still Scribble. It varied between Numidid, Amity English, and Galstand. She sounded irritated, and
