The Machine was defeated. The all-seeing eyes, gone. The mouths now open, all of them, but silent. Prisoners, slaves released. The dying, saved. The Oppressors, stopped. Their children? Taught a new path. The Faith in the Machine, now Faith in the Future.

The Machine provided everything. That was what they knew. It provided food, shelter, work... and a swift death. The mouths of The Machine no longer ate them. It no longer took their blood. And those who controlled it no longer breathed or gained profit from it. The Machine... stopped.

The shelters were still there. The people who made the food were still there. The delivery system was still there.

Because what that was made of was the people. The growers kept growing the foodstuffs. The cooks still cooked. The packers still packed, and the distributors still took the food to where it was needed. Commerce still flowed without the Machine directing people to exchange money.
