The return to normal had been irrevocably altered. They pretended everything was normal after the sweeping changes. By and large, they could all manage just fine in a world without real men.

Science, and the fact that humans weren't fully mature until thirty, had done much to keep the population stable. The only remaining issue was that the male portion of the population were compelled to become nomadic. Seasonal visits were equal parts heartbreaking and enlivening. Many got to see their loved ones again.

Maybe that was the other reason why Amy did it.
