I say “Yuletide” because it roughly encapsulates all the other names for the celebrations that happen around this day.
I didn’t write this, today. Of course not. Today, I plan on being busy catering to the season, running around like a fly with its bum on fire and generally getting some kind of swag.
December 25th is the day the world - more or less - stops. Traditionally, wars enjoy ceasefires, combat slows to a crawl and general animosity is at an all-time low, whilst generosity is at an all-time high.
Of course that can change. And probably has. Today might become the day of some hideous travesty made all the more horrible because it happened today.
But today is also a day of hope. Who knows? Maybe the wealthy elite will look around them and say, “You know what? Fuck this. I’m going to stick with what I need and give everything else to those who need it more than I do.” Maybe someone will invent a new, cheaper source of energy that can be made in the backyard with paperclips and duct tape.
Maybe the world will be a little bit better.
I hope so.
So, today, my prayers go to those who have less and need more than I. May you find what you need as well as what you want. May the forces of synchronicity lead you to a better path and a brighter future.
May we all find harmony together.
So, whatever you call your Yuletide holiday - celebrate responsibly and travel safely. And try to be nice to the poor sods who have to work, today. They’re probably tetchy that they’re missing family time. Understand. Spread the love.
And give something to a total stranger. Something nice. You won’t believe the feeling that comes from giving.
Merry Yuletide to all. And to all, a good night.
