How does Galactic civilisation feel about certain human literature? Like, say (just to pick two randomly, y'unnerstand) Discworld and the...

Human science fiction mystifies aliens.

“They wrote this just after they had steam trains?” [Jules Verne, The First Man on the Moon]

“Yes…”

“And they wrote this just after they had electricity.” [Mary Shelley, Frankenstein, a Modern Prometheus]

“Yes.”

“And they filmed that before they set foot on any other celestial body?” [Star Trek]

“Yes.”

“And they thought it all up before they knew what was possible?”

“Yes. They did.”

“Why do they keep trying to convince us that they’re sane?”

It’s difficult to say which works survived The Shattering [before I make up my mind…] but for the sake of this argument, I can pretend that these works made it.

Discworld would be almost dismissed by alien scholars as a stranded alien trying to teach the humans how ridiculous they were.

The Vorkosigan Saga could almost be viewed as a prophecy. Except Louis McMaster Bujold doesn’t have hyperspace or one-way wormholes. Thanks to some interesting miscommunication, sundry alien races are keeping a weather eye out for a Terran Colony called Barrayar.
