Hi, prompter for the China story. You may want to change "didn't take into account the Earth's motion" in that to "slight error in...
I was working on the idea that the Earth [and the solar system] moves in cycles. Now, our time traveller may have accounted for the motion of the solar system and, by extension, the milky way and the universe [otherwise it would have been a very short story], but the Earth doesn’t have a perfectly synchronized orbit. Even if you account for the 0.25 of a day, Terra a year ago is not quite in the same place relative to Sol. Maybe not by much, but when you multiply that by two thousand years…
Basically, our hero did almost all of the math. Fudging the numbers in time travel can be hazardous to the health :) And yes, he was lucky he was still in the vicinity of Earth. He was also lucky there was a tree exactly where it would break his fall.
As for editing… I’ll save the fix in the collection to be published when I have 365 of these suckers. My glaring original error can remain in my blog for posterity :)
