"Greater Deregulation is my stand-in..." -- See, that's where my suspension of disbelief breaks down. Even the corporations recognize that...
See, that’s where fiction has a harder time than reality.
Right now, there are companies with similar product that have mafia-like territorial zones [A “gentleman’s agreement” if you will] so that each can have their own areas of control, artificially-inflated prices, and customers over a barrel.
Right now, you have corporate sponsors of politicians. And you can bet that each senator has their corporate interests in hand.
Right now, you have corporations muscling out ‘mom and pop’ competitors so that nobody dares go against them.
Right now, you have corporations arguing to the people -successfully- that it’s in everyone’s best interests to preserve a shitty minimum wage.
Right now, you have rich people arguing that it’s better to protect wealth, and convincing the poor to vote with them “for when their ship comes in”.
Right now, you have the interests of the greedy few overwhelming the interests of the greater good, even in parties that do not have the majority vote. The noisy and greedy few are overwhelming the quieter and more generous majority.
Don’t believe me? Take a look at what’s happening in the US right now. Take a look at the incredibly sleazy TPP deal. Take a look at the fight to maintain net neutrality.
All I do is think logically about what might happen if these asshats always get their way.
