OK I'm a bit ticked off...
Mayhem’s school is supposed to have this rule where if the temperature hits forty degrees, celcius, they send the kids home because it’s too blippin’ hot.
It was 39 degrees when I arrived at two in the afternoon.
Which meant that it had to be hotter in the middle of the day.
Mayhem’s classroom is an oven at the best of times, and today definitely qualified as the worst of them, what with the blast-furnace breeze and all.
And to top it all off, there was a kid having an apocalypse-level tantrum all over the school grounds. “Tantrum” doesn’t really cover a ten-year-old attempting to smash anything that stayed still long enough with some kind of metal pole, but it’s the closest word I have that fits.
And, evidently, he had had a similar episode earlier in the day.
How this kid even managed to get hold of his bludgeon, I have no clue, but he had it and he destroyed a wheelie bin with the thing before wandering elsewhere and trying to smack a tree to death.
Fellow parents and I sat and listened as the school called a lockdown [after twenty minutes of thrashing about] and then watched in stunned amazement as kids began to file out of their classrooms during lockdown because they thought school was over.
I’m glad that Mayhem’s going to high school next year… but I’ll be looking for better places to put Chaos…
Yikes.
If that kid isn’t expelled, I am definitely pulling mine.
