Hubbie-darling bought me one. Well, signed me up to get one as soon as they hit our benighted shores. It's only been a week for me, but I'm loving it.
OC, we can only afford the free accessories, right now 9_9 and one of them's the game _Godfinger_ (IMG:style_emoticons/Nighty/crawler.gif) I recommend it to all fans of RTS and ultimate cosmic power by degrees. Only caveat is, at a certain stage, you need friends to play with. So who else is playing, and what name are they playing under? I'm InterNutter1 by the by. -------------------- |

I got one the day they came out. I didn't pre-order it and I didn't think I had a chance in that real hot place of getting one when I got down to the Apple shop after work (the only place in town that had them...that I know of...the JB up the street didn't)...but they had two 64s left.
It's not quite the one I wanted 'cos it's only wi-fi, but I decided when I was in store that it didn't really matter, the internet was pretty much a bonus feature for me, I still use my PC for most of my surfing (and if I'm travelling I just have to pop into Maccas to use it...and they're EVERYWHERE...and most accommodation worth their salt have got some kind of wi-fi to hook into). I basically wanted it as kind of a giant iPod...and because I was toying with getting a Kindle, and the iPad pretty much does what it does and more, plus I can get it repaired locally...and because I'm a total techno-junkie and I...well...just really wanted one. It IS excellent for doing a little surfing in the morning before work. I could never be bothered booting up my PC (and then have to shut it down) for an hour or so. But with the iPad, you just have to turn it on, tap on Safari and you're away...and you just have to click its little sleep button to turn it off (or simply set it down for a few minutes and let it go to sleep on its own). So easy. It's also great for games...so much easier on the eyes than my DS... I've paid for a few apps. I've got Pages (at $12.99 I thought that was pretty good for a fairly high level word processor) so I can fanfic whenever and wherever the muse strikes. And Numbers (same price) 'cos I've always loved farting about in Excel (and I keep tabs on my debit card expenditures in it). But mostly I've gone with the free apps. So, yeah, I'm loving it too. Only problem is my iTunes had a brain-fart last weekend...and reverted to an older version of itself (from before I had the iPad). Well...it was the same version, but it 'lost' a lot of the stuff that was in it and had to reimport a whole heap of stuff I'd bought and CDs I'd imported. Everything is back (though a lot of my purchases are no longer in my Purchased list), but I'm kind of loath to hook the iPad up to my PC in case it totally mucks it up. It shouldn't...the iPod's fine (I only lost a heap of playlists)...but it took a LONG time to synch. I'm going to try this weekend...fingers crossed it comes through okay. -------------------- |

Don't feel bad...iPad's not for everyone...some people hate it for being Apple...
So...I've resynched it...and it's fine...everything's still there...I didn't even have to re-enter my 'net and email details...only the iPod side of things have changed...and that's only the playlists... I am much relieved. -------------------- |

Oh, it's not that I don't want all the new toys, it's that I can't afford any of them.
Also, hi guys! |

I know - $1K for a 3GS and 16M of memory... but I can carry my fics with me [both Ind and Fan] wherever I whist.
I'm still looking for a decent app that can handle plain text files in numbers larger than 3. [considering I have ~30 unfinished fics lying about...] MyText does what I want, but it tends to go psychopants if I try to import *all* my work (IMG:style_emoticons/Nighty/nc-ick.gif) -------------------- |

They were out of 3Gs by the time I got to the store...so I got a 64M wi-fi. I didn't want it for the 'net anyway. I mostly play games on it while watching TV. It's kind of a giant iPod for me...I can watch my toons on a decent size screen when I'm away from home.
It IS handy for writing on the go, though...not that I've actually done any of that yet... -------------------- |
